Speech-Language Pathology Application Requirements

Ensure you have met or are on track to meet all admission requirements. The deadline for application to the program is January 15, 2027. If you have any questions surrounding your eligibility, please contact the College of Health Professions Graduate Admissions at chpgradadm@cmich.edu.

How to apply

1. Apply through CSDCAS. 
   • All applicants must apply using CSDCAS, do not apply to CMU's Office of Graduate Studies. The CSDCAS student portal will launch on July 15, 2026 for the 2026-2027 application cycle.  If you start the process prior to the launch date, your information will be deleted. Please reference the CSDCAS program directory to ensure your application is complete and all application, admissions, and program requirements have been met. Your CSDCAS application must include:
     • Experiences, achievements, and conferences attended.
     • Academic coursework.
     • Three letters of recommendation.
2. Pay the CMU supplemental application fee of $50.
3. Once your CSDCAS is verified and the supplemental application fee has been submitted, your application will be reviewed.

Application requirement checklist

A completed application consists of the following:

• Completed and verified CSDCAS application by January 15th.
  • CSDCAS suggests submitting your application 6-8 weeks before the deadline to ensure verification in a timely manner. If your application has not been verified by January 9th, you should contact CSDCAS (617-612-2030 or csdcasinfo@csdcas.org) to determine what is holding up the verification of your application.  If CSDCAS has not verified your application by January 12th, you should email our admissions committee to update us on your situation.
  • Any application that is incomplete or received after January 15th will not be considered.
• Paid CMU supplemental application fee of $50.
• TOEFL if applicable
• Prerequisite courses*
  • Introduction to audiology
  • Introduction to acoustic phonetics
  • Anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing
  • Language development
  • Descriptive phonetics
  • Audiologic rehabilitation
  • Clinical methods in speech-language pathology
  • Mentored practicum in communication disorders
  • At least one disorders course (e.g., speech sound disorders, child or adult language disorders, autism)

*Academic updates are required if you took any of the prerequisites after you initially submitted your transcripts to CSDCAS.  However, remember that updates must be complete and verified on or before January 15th. CSDCAS estimates that academic updates take 10 days to process following receipt of your transcripts.

Additional requirements for international students only

International students must complete the following requirements. Contact the College of Health Professions Graduate Admissions with any questions or concerns at chpgradadm@cmich.edu or 989-774-1730.

1. Course-by-course evaluation by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE), World Education Services (WES), Josef Silny and Associates, Inc., or Spantran.
   • Coursework taken at international institutions (from non-English speaking countries) must be evaluated by by ECE, WES, Josef Silny and Associates, Inc., or Spantran. Official transcripts and an official course-by-course evaluation must be sent from the evaluation service directly to CSDCAS and to The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, CHP Admissions Office, HPB 1250G, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859. Canadian students are exempt from this requirement.
2. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.
   • Prospective students who are not citizens must submit a satisfactory test score on the TOEFL or IELTS. Score requirements: 79 IBT/550 PBT or 6.5 on the TOEFL/IELTS for regular admission. 3. I-20 requirements.
   • Applicants who are offered/accepted into the Speech-Language Pathology Program, must submit to CMU's Office of Graduate Studies an I-20 Affidavit/Statement of Support Form, along with evidence of financial support. For more information, please reference the Graduate Bulletin or contact the Office of Graduate Studies at grad@cmich.edu.
