Why choose a political science major?

As a political science major, you’ll develop skills to help you think critically, write well and speak confidently. You’ll explore a wide range of topics including comparative politics, pre-law, international relations, American state and local government, nonprofits, public administration and research methods and processes.

You’ll have the opportunity to participate in an internship or attend seminars in Washington D.C. through the Washington Center, an independent, nonprofit educational resource that offers learning opportunities for more than 300 colleges and universities.

“Watching students learn from the professionals, network with CMU alumni in DC, and experience the policy work for national nonprofit organizations was inspiring,” said Emma Powell, Political Science & Public Administration faculty member. “I am thrilled to see this opportunity expand across CMU as well as other partner institutions, nationwide.”

You can also study global politics through a study abroad program or participate in the Model United Nations right on campus.
